In his speech he promised to give the public "more breathing room", and said he would set out a new 10-year plan for Britain by the end of this year. He also announced that his first instruction as prime minister would be to end rough sleeping, which was met with cheers from his supporters who'd gathered outside Downing Street. His predecessor Starmer gave a farewell speech in the same spot this morning, before formally offering his resignation to the King. More on this story.
