There have been at least seven officer-involved shootings, two of them fatal, since President Trump surged Homeland Security agents in city-by-city operations in early 2025.The big picture: ICE's presence isn't welcomed in some of the cities where it's operating. DHS claimed he rammed law enforcement vehicles before attempting to run over agents. Fellow passenger Solomon Antonio Serrano-Esquivel, of El Salvador, was injured in the resulting crash.Nov. 3, 2025 Carlos Jimenez, a U.S. citizen, was shot in the shoulder by an immigration agent in Ontario, California, east of Los Angeles. Jimenez approached ICE officers to ask them to move away from a bus stop used by local school kids, his lawyers said to The New York Times. When an officer then approached his car with a tear gas canister, Jimenez quickly reversed. "An ICE officer, fearing for his life, fired defensive shots at the vehicle," DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told the Times. Jimenez was then charged with assaulting of a federal officer.Oct. 29, 2025 During a traffic stop on I-17 in Phoenix, Arizona, ICE agents stopped Jose Garcia-Sorto, of Honduras. He pulled over but when agents approached his car, Garcia-Sorto began to drive away. ICE said an officer was in Garcia-Sorto's path, and an officer shot at the vehicle, according to the Phoenix New Times. Garcia-Sorto was hospitalized and in stable condition after the shooting.Oct. 21, 2025 TikTok maker Carlitos Ricardo Parias, better known as RichardLA18, was shot and injured by ricochet bullets during an altercation with immigration agents. Officials said Parias was trying to evade arrest and attempted to "ram" agents with his vehicle, according to ABC News. He was charged with assaulting a federal officer.Oct. 4, 2025Border Patrol Agent Charles Exum shot Marimar Martinez five times in Chicago, during the weeks-long surge dubbed Operation Midway Blitz. Martinez was accused of ramming her car into other DHS vehicle, leading to the shooting. She was charged with assaulting an officer. Martinez's lawyers successfully won a motion to dismiss, arguing that agents hit their client with a vehicle and that she was the victim of excessive force.Sept. 12, 2025 Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez was fatally shot after a traffic stop with immigration agents during Operation Midway Blitz. Villegas-Gonzalez tried to flee and an agent was caught by the vehicle in the process. The injured agent was heard on his body camera saying Villegas-Gonzalez "tried to run us over" but described the resulting injuries as "nothing major," according to The Chicago Sun Times. A DHS spokesperson told the newsroom at the time that ICE reviews "every use of force incident and any discharge of an ICE firearm."
