California: Wettest Christmas in years as more heavy rains expected
Heavy rains in California have triggered floods and mudslides that killed three people, according to local officials, forcing evacuations and the closure of major roads after up to 27 centimeters of rain fell in parts of Los Angeles County. The storms also caused widespread power outages, leaving around 100,000 people across the state without electricity on Christmas, with more rain expected through Friday. In response, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in six California counties, as reported by France 24’s Los Angeles correspondent, Wassim Cornet.
