RFK Jr. is latest Trump official to face Democratic impeachment effort
Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) on Wednesday filed articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.Why it matters: The thrum of impeachment is growing among House Democrats, with lawmakers also targeting Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and President Trump himself.Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) has introduced impeachment articles against Trump and Hegseth — which some of his colleagues see as a blatant effort to defuse a primary challenge from the left.Stevens is similarly running in a contested primary for U.S. Senate in Michigan, in which she is seen as the most moderate of the three candidates. The growing push for impeachment among lawmakers comes as the Democratic base has demanded its elected officials take a more combative stance towards Trump and his administration. Driving the news: The 13-page impeachment resolution targets the health secretary with one charge of "abuse of authority and undermining of the public health."It covers everything from Kennedy cutting research for vaccines to drawing a link between Tylenol use and autism to him firing all the members of several HHS advisory panels."Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has turned his back on science, on public health, and on the American people – spreading conspiracies and lies, driving up costs, and putting lives at risk," Stevens said in a statement. The effort is a long shot, given Republicans control both chambers of Congress. The other side: "Secretary Kennedy remains focused on improving Americans' health and lowering costs," said HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon."Not on partisan theatrics designed to elevate standing in a failing, third-rate Senate bid."
